Starring Meryl Streep, Robert Redford, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Michael Kitchen, Malick Bowens, Joseph Thiaka, Stephen Kinyanjui, and Michael Gough
Romance isn't really my thing. At least when it comes to movies. It's not that I'm not a romantic guy, but when it comes to the genre, I feel that it is very difficult to do it interestingly. This is one of the better examples of the genre, but still disappoints. Streep is wonderful as always as the Danish owner of an African farm, and Redford does well as the British hunter for whom she strays from her unloving husband. However, there is not much here you haven't seen before, so the film is ultimately forgettable. It's a shame that this is the only movie Sydney Pollack recieved an Academy Award for in his long and successful career.
Other nominees: The Color Purple (Steven Spielberg), Kiss of the Spider Woman (Hector Babenco), Prizzi's Honor (John Huston), and Witness (Peter Weir)
